They are Fumiko Saiga of Japan and Bruno Cotte of France. On Monday, 3 December 2007, during the fourth round of elections for ICC judges at the 6th session of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the ICC at the UN headquarters in New York, Judge Daniel David Nsereko of Uganda was elected and thereby completed the ICC bench. These judges will fill three vacancies arising from the resignations of Judges Maureen Harding Clark (Ireland), Karl T. Hudson-Phillips (Trinidad and Tobago), and Claude Jorda (France). For this election, at least two judges were required to be "list A" candidates (those wtih criminal law experience). After the election of all three judges, Judge Saiga was selected by lot to serve the remaining 1-2 years of Judge Jorda’s term (2009) and will be eligible for re-election for an additional 9-year term. The two other judges, Judge Cotte and Judge Nsereko will serve only the remaining 3-4 years of Judges Clark’s and Hudson-Phillips’ terms, both who were serving nine-year terms expiring in 2012. Below are detailed results from the four rounds. Results of first round Results of second round 69 votes were required to elect the third judge and no candidate reached this target. A third round was therefore held on Monday 3 December 2007. Results of third round Hence, no ICC judge was elected in the third round as no candidate received a two-third majority of the 102 States Parties present and voting: 68 votes. Following the third round, Trinidad and Tobago announced the withdrawal of Justice Permanand's candidacy. Results of fouth round Nominations The nomination period closed on 24 August 2007. By the closing date, the ASP Secretariat had received 6 nominations. The nomination of Mr. Sunday Akinola Akintan of Nigeria was subsequently withdrawn on 20 September 2007.
