The UN World Summit opened in the General Assembly Hall on 14 September 2005. The UN has played a key role in the establishment of the ICC and effective cooperation between the UN and the ICC remains essential. Credit: UN / Paulo Filgueiras.
The 58th session of the General Assembly opened in September 2003. During this session, the General Assembly adopted its yearly resolution on the ICC but also adopted the relationship agreement between the ICC and the UN, titled ‘Cooperation between the UN and the ICC’.

In addition, the General Assembly adopted 3 resolutions with reference to the ICC:
- on the Rights of the Child;
- on the Safety and Security of Humanitarian Personnel and Protection of United Nations Personnel; and
- on the Situation of Human Rights in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
