The UN World Summit opened in the General Assembly Hall on 14 September 2005. The UN has played a key role in the establishment of the ICC and effective cooperation between the UN and the ICC remains essential. Credit: UN / Paulo Filgueiras.
The 59th session of the General Assembly opened in September 2004. During this session, in addition to the resolution on the ICC, the General Assembly adopted 6 resolutions with reference to the ICC:
- on the Rights of the Child;
- on the Safety and Security of Humanitarian Personnel and Protection of United Nations Personnel;
- on Trafficking in Women and Girls;
- on Extrajudicial, Summary, or Arbitrary Executions;
- on the Situation of Human Rights in the Democratic Republic of the Congo; and
- on the Question of Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances.
