Updates on Jordan
31 Dec 2005
As of July 2005, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hae set up a committee to prepare a draft law for implementing legislation and a few articles in Jordan’s military code were reported to have been amended in accordance with the Rome Statute.
His Excellency Prince Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein served as the President of the third Assembly of States Parties at the Hague in September 2004. A law was published on 16 April 2002 establishing Jordan’s compliance with the Rome Statute. The law contains 3 articles: Art. 1 incorporates the full text of the Rome Statute; Art. 2 sets the date of entry into force; and Art. 3 provides the need for the Statute’s implementation into national law. A group of Jordanian NGOs (comprising 40 organizations and 400 individuals) sent a letter to the government congratulating them and urging them to make the nomination of judges transparent, and also to amend local laws to reflect the ICC. |
