Mr. Philippe Kirsch, President of the ICC, visits Chile
22 Mar 2007
From March 18 to 23, 2007, the President of the International Criminal Court visited Chile in an official mission. During his stay in Santiago he met with government officials as well as with leaders from various political parties represented in Congress to encourage accession to the Rome Statute. One of the objectives of the visit was to clarify the mandate of the ICC and the scope of its jurisdiction.
President Kirsch also participated in a seminar about the ICC organized by Humanas, in coordination with Oxfam Chile, the law school of the University of Chile, the Chamber of Deputies, PGA, and the Coalition for the ICC. The seminar included representatives from civil society, members of parliament, and academics who focused on issues ranging from the internal process for approval of the Rome Statute in Chile to the experiences of other countries that are part of the ICC system. |
