Updates on Lebanon
31 Dec 2005
Efforts were underway, in August 2004 (continuing through October 2004), by CICC members in Lebanon to continue public education and government outreach efforts towards ratification.

In January 2004, Members of the Lebanese Parliament, civil society, as well as government delegates from the Ministry of Emigrants Affairs attended the Sana'a Intergovernmental Conference on Human Rights, Democracy and the role of the International Criminal Court.

The Ministries of Justice and Foreign Affairs are studying the implications of ratification and implementation of the Rome Statute.

At the Sixth Committee meeting of the 54th General Assembly (fall 1999), the Lebanese representative expressed concern over the transfer of population issue, but this has largely been resolved. He affirmed the need and the importance of having a legally acceptable definition of the crime of aggression and its elements.
