In October 2002, a coalition of local NGOs was created to promote and raise awareness of the ICC. Its steering committee will work on implementing legislation in partnership with the government.

The National Assembly of Mali has completed the process of amendment to its Criminal Code to make it consistent with the Rome Statute. The Criminal Code now incorporates crimes covered under the Rome Statute.

Presidential elections had impeded any new developments on implementation. The government had previously asked for technical assistance, to move the implementation process forward.
