Updates on Mozambique
31 Dec 2005
As of October 2002, the governmnent had indicated an intention to ratify in the near future.

On 14 October 2002, the delegate from Mozambique at the 6th Committee of the 57th UN General Assembly remarked, "The process of ratification of the Rome Statute is underway and soon our country will be joining the family of States Parties to that international legal instrument."

An extended inter-ministerial committee (composed of governmental institutions, agencies and civil society) has been created to study the compatibility of the Statute with the national law.

A proposal for consitutional amendment on the immunities issue is before the Cabinet, and a constitutional review process is also underway.
