Updates on Comoros
Aug 2008
On 18 August 2006, Comoros deposited its instrument of ratification of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, becoming the 101st State Party. To achieve ratification, increased support for the ICC was generated within the National Assembly, civil society and the media. Subsequently the Executive transmitted the draft bill of ratification of the Rome Statute to the National Assembly on 26 March 2006, where it was unanimously approved by the plenary on June 27, 2006.

In 2007, a draft law on cooperation was prepared, and it was passed into law in early 2008. A draft law on complementarity was prepared in March 2008, and civil society is in the process of reviewing it for input. Once a final draft is available from the government, which is expected by October 2008, a workshop for members of civil society, state officials, and Members of Parliament will be organized to discuss the draft and to move the process toward completion.
