Updates on Benin
31 Dec 2005
Benin ratified on 22 January 2002, becoming the 49th State Party.

In October 2002, a coalition of local NGOs was created to promote and raise awareness of the ICC. Its steering committee will work on implementing legislation in partnership with the government.

On 7 August 2001, the Parliament unanimously approved the bill of ratification and authorized President Mathieu Kerekou to ratify the Rome Statute. In addition, the Minister of Justice, Legislation and Human Rights said on television that "it is good for Benin to rapidly become a State Party to the Rome Statute."
