On 21 October 2003, the National Assembly voted in favor of the ratification bill, previously approved by the Constitutional Court. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is expected to prepare the instrument of ratification for deposit at the UN.

The inter-ministerial committee in charge of the draft ratification bill, composed of experts from the Ministries of Justice and Foreign Affairs, concluded their report in support of ratification.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs previously presented the draft ratification bill to the Cabinet, who forwarded the bill to the National Assembly for approval.

The ratification bill was prepared with the consultation of NGOs. Burkino Faso had been concerned about the pending definition of the crime of aggression.

A conference on ratification and implementation was held in Ouagadougou at the end of March 2002, with participation from high level officials.
