Updates on Cameroon
31 Dec 2005
As of July 2002, the new deputy of Parliament assumed oversight of ratification .

On 30 June 2001, a draft bill of ratification was submitted to the President and the Head of Parliament by an interministerial committee assigned to study the Rome Statute and make recommendations. A constitutional amendment may be required for immunities, but will likely follow the French model.

On 4 December 2000, the interministerial technical committee was created under the President's decree to prepare a draft ratification bill and to consider national implementing legislation for the Rome Statute.

According to Article 53 of the Revised Constitution of 18 January 1996, the Head of State cannot be tried for acts committed during his term of office, save for high treason, and even such a crime would only go to the court of impeachment, created under the constitution.

Cameroon previously indicated that it was particularly interested in how the crime of aggression will be defined.
