The Organization of American States (OAS) brings together the 34 democratic countries of the Western Hemisphere to strengthen cooperation and advance common interests. It is the region’s premier forum for multilateral dialogue and concerted action. It plays a key role in defending democracy, protecting human rights, strengthening security, fostering free trade, combating illegal drugs and fighting corruption.
