> Una corte universal con apoyo global > Ratificación e implementación > Campaña por la Ratificación Universal > CRU - Turquía y las Islas del Pacífico (Tonga, Tuvalu y Palaos) CRU - Turquía y las Islas del Pacífico (Tonga, Tuvalu y Palaos) La Coalición por la Corte Penal Internacional le solicita a Turquía y a las Islas del Pacífico (Tonga, Tuvalu y Palaos) que se unan al Estatuto de Roma de la CPI lo antes posible.TURQUÍA 42 Estados de Europa y Asia Central son parte al Estatuto de Roma. Sin embargo, otros 12 aún están fuera del sistema. (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bielorrusia, La Santa Sede, Kazajstán, Kirguistán, Mónaco, Rusia, Turquía, Turkmenistán, Ucrania y Uzbekistán). En 2004, el Primer Ministro Erdoğan se comprometió ante la Asamblea del Parlamento del Consejo de Europa manifestando que Turquía aprobaría prontamente el Estatuto de Roma. En la primera Conferencia de Revisión del Estatuto de Roma, realizada en Kampala, Uganda (31 de mayo – 11 de junio de 2010), el Jefe de la delegación Turca reafirmó el compromiso del Primer Ministro Erdoğan de 2004. Sin embargo, el progreso de Turquía se ha mantenido paralizado. La posición de Turquía es clave en el escenario internacional y puede contribuir significativamente al fortalecimiento de la voz global en la Corte y lograr una participación más robusta y significantiva en el esfuerzo mundial para establecer una CPI justa, efectiva e independiente. La Coalición insta a Turquía a acelerar su proceso de adhesión, esto ayudará a promover el compromiso de la región con el nuevo sistema de justicia internacional. ISLAS DEL PACÍFICO La Coalición insta a los gobiernos de Palaos, Tonga y Tuvalu a que agilicen sus esfuerzos en pos de la adhesión al Estatuto de Roma. Esto es particularmente importante ya que la región de Asia y el Pacífico cuenta con una significativa subrepresentación en la Asamblea, con solo 17 ratificaciones entre los 40 Estados de Asia y el Pacífico. Este llamado urgente a la adhesión no es más que un recordatorio del propio reconocimiento que los Estados del Pacífico poseen sobre la importancia de ser miembros de la Corte Penal Internacional y el compromiso de adherirse, los cuales se han documentado en varias ocasiones, por ejemplo, la Mesa Redonda de Sensibilización del Pacífico de la Corte Penal Internacional, sesiones del Examen Periódico Universal, entre otras. ¡Haga algo ahora!
